Shapeshifting 13 #56 – 3 June 2016

The Grammar Ghouls offer a weekly photo to use as a starting point in crafting a micro short of flash fiction. Each week is a multiple of 13 and this week the budget bulges to a hefty 52 words! The story or poem must be based on the picture that comes next.

Minerva’s eyes darted around the room and she tried not to be conspicuous, but zero hour was fast approaching. She had loosened just enough supports on the tree chandelier to make sure it released and fell just as Duke Horace and Duchess Farrah reached their chairs. Only five more seconds and bang!

Alien Undercover Boss – Shapeshifting13 #40

The creepy crawlers from Grammar Ghoul Press tossed this one out for our eyes today in the form of the Shapeshifting 13 #40. In the regular rotation of multiples of 13 we get four times the words, that is right 52, to tell our tale. I hope you enjoy mine!

Cereal Dust Bowl by Carl Warner

“She is an alien,” Ken said, peering over the pile of trash at the eerie light coming from the door of the camper.

“Is not,” Jimmy replied.

“Then why is her head glowing?”

“Electrical curlers,” Jimmy said matter-of-factly.

“Only thing,” Ken said. “There is no electrical wires to the trailer.”

“What? Oh man!”

The Half-Thousand Pumpkin Dress – Shapeshifter 13 – 10/23/15

Grammar Ghoul Press has been offering two prompts a week for fiction writers for quite a while. This particular one is known as the Shapeshifting13 Challenge. Each week you have a word limit in a multiple of 13 words combined with your photo prompt like the one below. The short fiction must have relevance to the photo and be no more than the word limit. For this week the limit tops out at 52 words.

Suman at Desibuckets

The children leaned forward, eager to search of the prize. Miss Poindexter promised she had taped a $500 bill to one of the 500 pumpkins adorning her yard. Sydney Allen needed that $500 for her recital dress. No one else was going to get it no matter who she had to hurt!

The First Cow To Mars – Shapeshifter 13 (#22) – 10-9-15

The Grammar Ghoul Press offers two prompts each week to satisfy your fiction writing urge. One is a micro-story prompt offering multiples of 13 words, i.e. 13 in week one, 26 in week two and so on but always less than 53 words. The other is a 750 word offering known as the Mutant 750. I usually don’t get it together in time to include with the others. The prompt for The Shapeshifting 13 Mico-fiction Writing Challenge begins at noon on Friday and is open until 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Their is a grid you can add your offering to and there is a 24 hour reading and voting period by anyone who happens by.

So enough with the offical words, here is my interpretation of the prompt, which is the photo that follows along.

“The Six Million Dollar Cow” by Anthony Wolff

Trading with aliens was new, but money was money and Farmer Jones made a killing. How the aliens ate the heifer was their business, not his.
