Chuckin’ the Wood – Friday Fictioneers – 02/02/18

Harmon was the kind of literal guy who often got into disagreements because if you said it was raining cats and dogs he thought Schnauzers and Calicos should be present in his yard. No, he wasn’t simple, just someone who listened.

But then he got this idea to test some of these literal sayings he had heard his whole life.

Marge the wife came home to wood all over their yard one day. Harmon stood beaming as she approached.

“What happened here?” She asked.

“I learned how much wood a woodchuck can chuck,” Harmon said.

“Seriously?”

“Wood I kid you?”

The Owner’s Edge – Carrot Ranch Weekly Flash – 01/28/17

crff012517.png  Waycroft held his smile, waiting for Melissa’s frown to fade. but fade it did not.

“You’re serious!” he said with laughter thick in his reply.

“Deadly!” Melissa said through clenched teeth.

“Do you know who I am?”

“I know what you are! But I am not alone. There is so many who will stand with me. This has to end!”

“Melissa,” Waycroft said, smoothly transitioning into the tone that usually allowed him to do what he pleased. “I’m sure we can take care of this.”

“Keep your seat. I have had your hands on me quite enough.”

“You’ll lose.”

After a brief four week sabbatical I am back to spin some more tales. The old story factory needed a breather as even I could see the creativity was strained. I hope all had a great holiday season.

Catching Deidre – Sunday Photo Fiction – 01/28/18

It is said that heroes are born, not made. So what is necessary to create such a thing? Obviously some kind of heroic adventure. In past times slaying a dragon or saving a kingdom would qualify the doer for such a reputation. But in the time of Artemis and Deidre neither dragons or kingdoms played a hand in the ascension of Artemis to greatness.

Instead it was a pesky and overgrown bird that favored the flowers Deidre loved to fashion into a necklace. Keep in mind these flowers were quite fragrant and large bloomed, so they not only carried the powerful fragrance to attract attention, but the crimson red of the flowers made Deidre easy to see.

The day Artemis’ legend began was the day this particular bird decided to grant Deidre a free ride, snatching her off the trail to Artemis’ home on her early morning walk. As it happened Artemis was hunting with his bow and he made a quick target of the fowl. Tossing his bow aside, he was able to swoop under his falling damsel to solidify his credentials.

Save the Aliens – Friday Fictioneers – 01/05/18

Bobby checked his watch, panic showing in his eyes. He was scrambling around, trying to connect as many tubes as quickly as possible.

“Thanks for believing me!” he shouted to Annie.

She didn’t. But for the moment it didn’t matter. She loved him and that was enough.

“Tell me once more why we are doing this?”

“Minstar Kaley showed me the plans of the Red League to eliminate all the Dakki on earth. This will allow their escape. I pledged my loyalty to the Dakki after they saved my life.

Annie was speechless. Love only goes so far you know.
